WEB has been producing water for the island of Aruba since 1932 and began also producing energy for the island in 1958. A reliable power network is vital to Aruba. WEB Aruba generates power and delivers it 24/7 to a distribution company, NV ELMAR.
Meeting Aruba’s increasing demand for energy has kept WEB Aruba in a constant state of growth and change. Committed to delivering efficient, stable and reliable energy, it was time to upgrade some forgotten power lines. From the water and energy facility in Balashi, these cables has been supplying power to the the city of San Nicolas and the oil refinery since 1994.
The project involved the renovation of the two main power lines. Each line was capable of carrying up to 35 Kv. After the renovation, each line will be able to carry 60 Kv of energy.
To provide a reliable service to their customers, over 25km of power lines were replaced and upgraded. The fiber-optic cables were also replaced as part of the project. This will ensure a great and efficient systems communication between the substation in San Nicolas and the main energy production facility in Balashi.
The work was carried out by different departments of the company, together with the main partners; Twentsche Kabelfabriek (TKF) and C2 Civil & Construction.
